In addition to the traditional uses, one of my favorite ways to honor the placenta is to make prints. As the first step in the process, we create the art prints with the natural placenta blood on acid-free artists paper. Some families frame them and display their prints as art or others choose to save them as personal keepsakes.

These unique imprints display the size, shape and general appearance of the placenta. In the prints of the baby’s side of the placenta, you can often see why placenta can be called the “Tree of Life”. While they all look the same, to a certain extent, this is one way to acknowledge that all placentas are special and have their own patterns and appearance.
